When selecting a champ:
- Don’t play any role you aren’t ready to play and don’t force anyone else to. Ever! Just don’t do it!
- Stick to your strengths even if it means going in the face of the meta. You’ll do far better when you aren’t trying to play something you are uncomfortable playing!
- Always remember that the game of LoL is actually intended for players to enjoy themselves (Hah, imagine that!) and that some people actually just want to play for fun! If you feel you are too competitive for fun, transition to bot games, where you will (almost) never lose!
In game (The lane phase!):
- Always remember that CS is just as important (if not more in some cases) as kills (especially if it means putting yourself in danger.) That enemy Malzahar might have 3 kills on you, but his 13 CS isn’t gonna carry him into mid game! Killing creeps is a sure way to get gold! Do that and you won’t want for money!
- Ward up! Always be sure to ward up when the enemy has a jungler and keep an eye on the map for enemy champs wandering out of lanes!
- If an ally is having a tough time with an opponent, offer a lane swap! Offer to gank! Don’t shit talk them. Odds are they aren’t nearly as bad as you think! Regardless the most effective way to help them transition into late game (or carry them.) is to provide assistance either with ganks, or lane support!
- Be mindful of who is getting kills! It is worthless to trade kill for kill unless you’re playing a champion that you are SURE snowballs harder than your opponent. And be mindful that trading a kill for a kill/assist is a bad trade.
- Junglers! If you don’t need your buffs, offer them to your carries! I’m sure Gragas would LOVE to have blue buff. Working with your team ensures good performance in the lane, and I don’t just mean when ganking!
In game (Mid game!):
- Group up! Don’t let folks run around alone! That lone wolf carry mind-set will only work for so long! You can’t win a game by yourself, it’s a team effort!
- Be sure to be warding all over the map! Some important spots are buffs, dragon and Baron!
- Having dragon control is an incredibly powerful thing! Global gold is always good. Don’t let your enemies have it for free!
- Be sure to keep farming! Every penny counts!
In game (Late game!):
- Team fights should be common by now! Protect your weaker members and don’t get caught! Team fights are all about keeping your damage dealers alive for as long as possible!
- Wards wards wards! Any time you can catch an opponent away from the group, you’re taking a huge advantage! Likewise, don’t get caught alone! It will spell disaster for your team! Wards can help you in both aspects! Don’t leave home without them!
- Baron! A team with this is a force to be reckoned with! And the global gold isn’t too bad either! Don’t give this to your enemy without a fight! Steal it if you can, keep pressure on, and most importantly be mindful of the locations of your enemies before starting a baron fight. Take careful note of how many players are in the fog of war at all times.
- Once you push a lane, GET OUT. Don’t stay too long or you risk turning a powerful advantage into a loss. Your team can take a huge hit when two or three healthy enemies come in and mop you up because you decided to hit another inhibitor!
- Don’t say good game until the nexus explodes! Playing smart can snatch victory from defeat!
When the game is over!
- Say good game! Congratulate your opponents! They probably earned a hard victory and played well! Instead of saying “Damn, Kass free week is killing me” or “Man, I wish Jax wouldn’t feed” say “Nice going Karthus, It was a fun lane!” You’ll be surprised how much a change in attitude can effect your game!
- Saying “Bad game” comes off as unsportsman-like. Don’t be a sore loser! It’s not fun! It just puts you in a bad mood for the next game!
- As long as you enjoyed the game, and learned from your mistakes then your time wasn’t wasted. Just because your team lost doesn’t mean you have to consider a game a loss as a whole! Pick up where you left off and take note of things you can do to help your team have a better game next time!
- Remember to have fun! Had a bad last game? Don’t be afraid to experiment this time! Having fun should be a top priority! Don’t forget what the game’s about and you’ll do fine.
